Staff
The staff at the Novato Summer Music Institute is committed to providing an educational
and fun experience in music education. Staff members are chosen based on their strong
commitment to music education and for their ability to make N.S.M.I. a memorable
experience. All staff members are experienced in working with all types of students and
have been fingerprint checked by the Novato Police Department.

A graduate of California State University Hayward's music education credential program, Jason has
taught at Ochoa Intermediate School in Hayward. He has also taught at Chadbourne  Elementary,
Mission Elementary, and Gomes Elementary school in Fremont. Jason also taught and directed the
Union City Community Choir.

In 2001 Jason founded the Union City Summer Arts Academy. In 2002 Jason assisted in the founding
of the Novato Youth String Ensemble. Jason was the first director of the Novato Summer Music Institute
in 2002.
Ms. Roudman grew up in San Rafael and was raised in a musical family.  Ms. Roudman began her
cello studies at 7 years old. During her childhood, Rebecca was Principal Cellist of the Marin Youth
Orchestra and won numerous competitions on her cello.  Ms. Roudman was also a member of the
San Francisco Youth Orchestra and toured Europe as a member of the ensemble. Ms. Roudman
graduated cum laude from California State University, Hayward with a Bachelor of Arts degree in
Music Performance.
Ms.  Roudman has performed solos with the Marin Youth Orchestra, the Cal State Hayward
Orchestra, the Marin Chamber Orchestra, the Classical Philharmonic, the Ohlone College Orchestra,
and the Community Women’s Orchestra.  Ms. Roudman has performed extensively with string
quartets including Che Bella, the Chamberlain Quartet, and the Capricollis Quartet.
Ms. Roudman is currently a member of the Santa Rosa Symphony and the Oakland East-Bay
Symphony.  In 2001, Ms. Roudman went on tour to Brazil with the San Francisco Women's
Philharmonic. She also works as a free-lance musician throughout the Bay Area.
In 2002 Ms. Roudman founded the Novato Youth String Ensemble, an after-school string program
for students ages 10-18. In 2002- 2003 Ms. Roudman was the director of the pre-advanced string
class in the Marin Youth Orchestra's Crescendo program. In 2002 she co- founded and co-directed
the Novato Summer Music Institute.  In 2003-2006, Ms. Roudman was the string teacher at Novato
Charter School teaching 4th-8th graders.  She also taught 6-8th grade choir.
Ms. Roudman loves music, and she is happy to share her love of music to her students.
